A former Associate Professor and the Deputy Director of the Centre for Research and Publication at International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF). Dr. Lahsasna received his Bachelor degree in Islamic Science from Algeria and later obtained his Master and Ph.D in Islamic Law and Islamic Jurisprudence (Fiqh and Usul Fiqh) from IIUM, Malaysia.
He is a registered Shariah advisor for the Islamic Unit Trust Schemes and Islamic Securities (Sukuk), with the Securities Commission of Malaysia; member of Shariah Committee of Maybank Islamic Berhad and sits in Shariah Advisory Council of the Malaysian Financial Planning Council (MFPC). Dr Lahsasna also sits on the panel of FAA ccreditation, appointed by the Finance Agency Accreditation Malaysia. He is the member of Shariah Committee of Etiqa Takaful Berhad (SCETB) since 2009 and appointed as Chairman of SCETB in July 2015.
Dr. Ismail Mohd @ Abu Hassan
Currently an Assistant Professor at Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws, International Islamic University Malaysia. He holds a first class honours degree in Shariah from University Malaya in 1989, Master from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London in 1992 and PhD from University of Manchester in 1997. He is the Shariah Advisor for Amanahibah Malaysia since 2001, Shariah Committee member of Maybank Islamic (2007 – 2017) and Shariah Advisor of Amanah Hartanah Bumiputera since 2010.
He is also a registered Shariah Advisor for the Islamic Unit Trust Schemes and Islamic Securities (Sukuk), Securities Commission of Malaysia. In relation to the takaful industry, Dr Ismail was the Shariah Committee member of the then Takaful Nasional Sdn Bhd from 2005 and later serves Etiqa Takaful Berhad till to date in the same capacity. He was the Independent Director of Etiqa Takaful Berhad since from 2014 till September 2017.
Dr. Mohammad Deen Mohd Napiah
Currently an Assistant Professor at Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws, International Islamic University Malaysia. He obtained his first degree in Shariah & Islamic Studies from the Kuwait University and holds a PhD from Glasgow Caledonian University, Scotland. He served as Head, Department of lslamic Law, Kulliyyah of Laws from 1997 to 2000 and later Deputy Dean (Student Affairs) until 2003. He was the Shariah Committee member of Maybank Islamic (2005 – 2017) and Shariah Advisor to Amanah Hartanah Bumiputera since 2010.
In relation to the takaful industry, he was the Shariah Committee member of the then Mayban Takaful since 2005 and later serves Etiqa Takaful Berhad till to date in the same capacity. Dr Mohammad Deen is a registered Shariah Advisor for the Islamic Unit Trust Schemes and Islamic Securities (Sukuk) with Securities Commission of Malaysia. He is also a member of the Disciplinary Committee Panel, Advocates & Solicitors Disciplinary Board of the Malaysian Bar Council.
Dr. Sarip Adul
A senior lecturer at University Malaysia Sabah. He obtained his first degree in Shariah from the University of Al-Azhar, Egypt and Master in Fiqh and Usul Al-Fiqh from University of Jordan. He later pursued his PhD in Shariah at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and obtained his doctorate in 2015. He is the former member of Fatwa Council for Sabah and currently sits as a Shariah Committee member of Baitulmal Sabah. He was the Shariah Committee member of Maybank Islamic from 2011 to 2015. He is also a registered Shariah Advisor for the Islamic Unit Trust Schemes and Islamic Securities (Sukuk), Securities Commission of Malaysia. In relation to the takaful industry, he sits as the Shariah Committee member of Etiqa Takaful Berhad since 2011. He actively participated as a speaker in various seminars, events and television programs relating to Shariah, Islamic law and da’wah.
Professor Dr. Rusni Hassan
Dr. Rusni Hassan is a Professor and Deputy Dean at the IIUM Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance, IIUM. She graduated with LLB (Honours), LLB (Shariah) (First Class), Master of Comparative Laws (MCL) and Ph.D in Law. She was a member of Shariah Advisory Council Bank Negara Malaysia, the highest legal body that ascertained the Islamic law for the purposes of Islamic financial business in the country from 2010 to 2016. She is the Shariah Committee member for a number of institutions in Malaysia including Association of Islamic Banking Institutions Malaysia (AIBIM). Internationally, she is the Shariah Committee member for Housing Development Finance Corporation and Housing Development Corporation, Maldives. She is a registered Shariah Advisor with the Securities Commission Malaysia.
She is also active in the Association of Shariah Advisors in Islamic Finance Malaysia (ASAS) and the International Council of Islamic Finance Educators (ICIFE) where she is the Secretary and the Assistant Secretary for both associations respectively. She has spoken extensively in seminars, workshops, conferences and trainings on various Islamic Finance issues. Her publication includes books on Islamic Banking and Takaful, Islamic Banking under Malaysian Law, Corporate Governance of Islamic Financial Institutions and many articles in local and international journals. She has received awards as a Promising Researcher at IIUM in 2012.
Her works and contribution to Islamic Finance has also been recognized internationally when she was listed among the Top 10 Women in Islamic Finance by CPI Financial in 2013 and been awarded as Most Talented Women Professional in Islamic Banking, Asia Islamic Banking Excellence Awards, CMO Asia, 2014; and Women of Distinction in her contribution in the field of Islamic Finance and law by Venus International Women Awards (VIWA 2016).
Professor Dr. Abdul Rahim Abdul Rahman
Dr. Abdul Rahim is a Professor at the Faculty of Economics and Muamalat, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM). He is also the Independent Director of Etiqa Takaful Berhad since October 2017. In addition, he is the Chief Editor for the Journal of Muamalat and Islamic Finance Research (JMIFR) published by USIM. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Finance and Accounting from the University of East London, and Master’s degree in Accounting and Management Sciences, and PhD in Accounting in Islamic Institutions from the University of Southampton, United Kingdom.
Currently, Professor Abdul Rahim is a member of Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia’s (JAKIM) Muamalat Panel of Experts. He is also a member of the Shariah Committee for Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia, an Islamic microfinance provider. He is actively involved in teaching, research and consultancy on Islamic Finance, Islamic Accounting, Ethics and Governance, and Shariah Audit. He has published 3 books, and more than 40 papers in academic journals and chapters in books.
